The Association

Volunteers who save the ruins of the fortress and animate the cultural life of the site.

Its mission

Founded in 1983 under the name association des Amis du château de Moyen (Friends of the Château de Moyen), it became in 2004 the association du château « Qui qu'en grogne ». Its purpose : to save the ruins of the fortress and carry out cultural initiatives.

In 1987, an agreement with the commune of Moyen entrusted it with the operation, promotion and management of the entirety of the site's grounds : « The Commune of Moyen undertakes to entrust the association with the operation, promotion and management of the entirety of the land it has already acquired or that it would appear desirable to acquire in the future within the perimeter of the fortress's enclosure… Until the restoration works on the buildings are complete, the Commune shall place the buildings at the association's disposal free of charge. »

The association lives above all through its volunteers, who welcome visitors, bring the museum to life, and come together for the association's festivities.

Its history

1927

The site of the Château de Moyen is listed on the supplementary inventory of Monuments historiques (historic monuments).

1983

Founding of the association des Amis du château de Moyen. Its purpose is to save the ruins of the fortress and carry out cultural initiatives.

1984

The commune purchases the castellan's residence.

1985

The castellan's residence is listed as a Monument historique.

1985 – 1988

Restoration works on the castellan's residence.

1987

Agreement between the commune of Moyen and the association, entrusting it with the operation, promotion and management of the entirety of the site's grounds.

1988

Purchase of the episcopal palace by the commune of Moyen. The same year, the association receives the Prix Antenne 2 du patrimoine (Antenne 2 heritage prize), recognising its work to save the castle.

1992

The entire site is listed as a Monument historique.

1995

Preliminary study on the restoration of the Episcopal Palace by Thierry Algrin, chief architect of historic monuments.

1998

Consolidation works on the Episcopal Palace. The project for the complete restoration of the Episcopal Palace is abandoned, its funding proving impossible.

2004

The association changes its name and becomes the association du château « Qui qu'en grogne ».

2012

First year the association hosts, during the summer months, work camps for scout groups from all over France.

2016 – 2017

Launch of an artistic and cultural project, the first results of which are presented during the Journées Européennes du Patrimoine (European Heritage Days) on 16 and 17 September 2017. The same year, a campaign is launched to welcome new members and active volunteers.
